LO STUDIO MARONI

The Studio began and developed with the unusual formative and experimental path of Franco Maroni, who from the 1950s explored in various places, even during his temporary engagement in cinematographic scenography, the many fields of design, interior design, architecture, restoration and urban planning, sedimenting different experiences in the continuity of the affirmation of its own language. The contribution of Piero Maroni, in the eighties, enlivens the design dialectic and renews the interlocutory process and the proposals: Studio Maroni Architetti Associati is born.

After the death of Franco Maroni (2016), the Arch. Piero Maroni changes his name to “Studio Maroni”.

The "saddle" factory increases its work and equips itself with new skills and motivated apprentices: a large "workshop" today at work, called to look out into the world, with the awareness that ranging across the various fields arises from the need not to flatten themselves in the shell of reductive specializations

The story of the master saddler, famous aphorism by Adolf Loos (Austrian architect, 1870-1933)

“Once upon a time there was a master saddler. He was a good craftsman, very skilled and he made saddles which, due to their shape, had nothing in common with the saddles of previous centuries... In other words, they were modern saddles. But he didn't know it. He only knew that he made saddles as best he could. One fine day a strange movement spread through the city. It was called the Secession. It stipulated that only modern objects should be produced. When the master saddler learned of it, he took his best saddle with him and went to the head of the Secession. And he said to him: Mr. Professor, is this a modern saddle? The professor examined the saddle and gave the craftsman a long speech... The result, however, was: no, this is not a modern saddle. The craftsman went away all mortified … But the professor said: Come back tomorrow. We are here on purpose to encourage the craftsman and fertilize him with new ideas ... The next day the master saddler returned. The professor was able to present him with forty-nine saddle projects... The master saddler looked at the drawings for a long time and everything became clearer and clearer in his eyes. Finally he exclaimed: “Mr. Professor! If I knew so little about riding, horses, leather and workmanship, I too would have a lot of imagination". And he has lived happily ever after ever since. And he makes saddles. Modern? He does not know it. Saddles”.
